Maltese sisters’ boardgame earns international recognition, Award nominations

Maltese sisters Fleur and Chelsea Sciortino have achieved recognition in tabletop roleplaying games with their creation “Flabbergasted!”. This game’s nominations for three prestigious ENNIE Awards on the global stage, including competition against titles like Dungeons and Dragons, is especially remarkable as it marks their debut in the tabletop roleplaying sector.

Inspired by their childhood love for roleplay board games, the sisters united their skills as an illustrator and architect to craft “Flabbergasted!”. This game, showcased through their studio “The Wanderer’s Tome”, delivers a unique and amusing take on a 1920s-themed roleplaying adventure. Players form social clubs embark on entertaining escapades in unpredictable scenarios.

The sisters were taken back by the nominations and expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the unexpected recognition. This acknowledgment significantly boosts their confidence in pursuing their creative aspirations. The ENNIE Awards are designed to honor achievements in role-playing game products, with the winners selected through a combination of publisher submissions and public voting.

“Flabbergasted!” quickly exceeded its Kickstarter funding goals, highlighting strong support from backers. Since its 2021 launch, the game has been translated into four languages, producing over 4000 copies. The sisters also secured licensing deals in countries like North America, Italy, France, and Ukraine.

Their company, The Wanderer’s Tome, secured the Creative Business Cup Malta, an award sponsored by Malta Enterprise. This earned them the opportunity to represent Malta at the Global Finals in Copenhagen.
